Yarragon is located in central/west Gippsland and is surrounded by rolling hills and mountain ranges. The area is mainly dairy farming and is referred to as the Cream of Gippsland.
To fully explore and appreciate what Yarragon and the surrounding area has to offer will take more than one visit so plan to return.

Some places worth taking the time to enjoy are;
- Blue Rock Lake, enjoy the fishing, a picnic and swimming all with 30 minutes of Yarragon.
- Latrobe Valley, the open cut mine from the viewing area is truly awe-inspiring.
- Darnum Music village. Only 7 kilometres away, a delight for both young and old.
- Mirboo North. Famous for its brewery, you can sample many boutique beers. A must visit pretty town.
- Mt Baw Baw, popular all year around for its spectacular scenery. Only 11/2 hours away.
The A to Z of Yarragon
ART: new artist hub opening in Yarragon! Also see Tritec for your art supplies. Yarragon has its own Art Gallery, and there are many artists dotted throughout the area. West Gippsland Art Centre in Warragul keeps hosting many high quality shows.
BUSH: For those who enjoy natures beauty and wildlife, come and visit Mt Worth, enjoy a drive along the Grand Ridge Road, and visit World Heritage Listed Terra Bulga National Park. Yarragon also offers some nice walks, including a 5 km circumference of the town. And we are close enough to the BAW BAW range for you to explore also!
CRAFT: Cantlebury Country in Yarragon is a delight for Patch-workers, and there are several other good craft shops in Trafalgar, Moe and Warragul.
CHILDREN Are welcome too, to play in the garden, or visit the local playgrounds. There is plenty to see and do, without spending a fortune!
DRIVE: This is a beautiful area for leisurely drives along winding country roads which offer breathtaking scenery, there is something new to discover around every corner.
ENTHUSIASM: We have plenty for West Gippsland, and hope to invoke it in you too!
EVENTS: Too many to mention here, there is something happening every month of the year! Best places to look would be the Baw Baw shire website, what’s in Baw Baw, and Lardners Tracks Events. Also, What’s on in La Trobe. Shows, Markets, Fairs, Festivals, Music, Art, Exhibitions, we just can’t keep up!
FOOD: Of the Gourmet type, but reasonably priced. Try Sticcado in Yarragon, as well as the Bakery with its renown potato bread. The other cafes all have their own specialties, from great cakes to sumptuous brunches or lunches. We like them all. And we are happy to recommend others in the surrounding area.
GIPPSLAND: Rich in history, blessed with beauty, crowned with everything for the good life – and West Gippsland is only 80 minutes from Melbourne

LAKES: No need to drive much further, from Stanbyrne as a base, you have Lake Narracan, Blue Rock Dam, the Thompson Dam and River, Narracan Falls, Hazelwood Pondage. Enough to cast a line, sail a boat or enjoy a dip!
MOE HISTORICAL VILLAGE: Lovely day out for all ages, reasonably priced and informative, fun to discover and a food like Grandma used to make.
MARKETS: There is one for every weekend of the month here!
MIRBOO NORTH: lovely short drive to picturesque town, beautifully resting on the Strzleckis, with Murals, interesting shops and cafes, lovely half day outing.
NOOJEE: Another lovely drive, this time to the Baw Baw Range, though Neerim and Neerim South, again lots to see and a good day out.
OMEO,ORBOST: If you are heading there, we make a great half way stop.
PETS: Yes you can bring them, and either leave them in the enclosed yard while you venture out, or take them with you, there are cafes and parks which welcome them too!
QUICK: Not far from Melbourne, and conveniently located to discover West Gippslands secrets.
REST: In the garden, the reserves, in the cafes, at lookouts, in the parks….then there are local masseurs and beauty parlours awaiting to pamper you!
STANBYRNE: We offer good, clean accommodation at reasonable rates, in comfortable self contained cottages. And we aim to please.
STRZELECKI RANGE: Also known as Lecki, or simply ‘The Hills’ to avoid tongue twists. Gorgeous to behold, drive through and admire the Valleys below, abound with history, challenging to farm, and rich with cool rainforests which rival those of the Dandenongs. Small towns are dotted throughout which invite to stop and explore. Exhilarating when suddenly you view the ocean after a sea of hills.
SKIING: Again, we could be your base, and there are buses which operate from Warragul to bring you up to Mt Baw Baw. Certainly a good day trip, and if part of your family do not share your enthusiasm for the white stuff, why not leave them here to explore, while you head up to hit the slopes?
TEA TIME: Absolutely. Several places have re-established High Tea, like Panassus for example. Then there are Devonshire Teas, the variety of teas in your breakfast hamper, and enough restaurants within a short drive to see you through a few weeks of different tastes and delights. Good food is appreciated and highly valued here in the area, with a large variety of produce made locally. Cheeses, Chutneys, Jams, Venison, Beef, Bread, Cakes, Fruit, Potatoes, Asparagus and other Vegetables, Honey, Coffee, Juices, Teas….
V Line Trains stop in Yarragon, so you could leave the car behind for a weekend, ask us to pick you up from the station ( Or just walk across) and enjoy a restful weekend.
Walhalla: Historic town with working Gold mine, a must to visit and explore, another lovely day trip!
West Gippsland: There is always something happening, and we have so much more to offer than just a pit stop! Come and explore!
